Handmade Basketball Invitations

Making handmade basketball invitations is an opportunity to let your creativity shine. You will need medium card stock in one light color of your choice. Try a team color. That's one of the advantages of homemade invitations you can customized and personalize them. You'll also need card stock in brown and embroidery thread in white, a glue stick, tape and makers. You are going to make a handmade basketball and hoop. Cut the light colored card stock into rectangles that will fit in an envelope. Sometimes with homemade invitations, it is worthwhile to purchase a package of larger envelopes. Use the brown card stock, to cut round shapes for the basketballs. Place a basketball shape on the light colored card stock to be certain it will fit and the size is proportional.

Now, this is where your handmade invitations get interesting. With the marker draw in details on the basketball and glue it to the light colored card about an inch from the top. Taking the embroidery thread make a small homemade net. Lay several long pieces of thread down vertically about a half-inch apart and on top of them place several long pieces horizontal a half-inch apart. The number and length of pieces depends on how large you want your handmade net to be. You should end up with a grid pattern. Tie the pieces together everywhere two pieces meet. This is your net.

Pick up the homemade net; fold it in half so that you have one of the horizontal pieces at the top. Using a craft knife cut slits in the background card stock about ¼ inch from each side of the basketball, starting halfway down the ball. Make the slits long enough to insert the net into. Insert the net in the slits and you have a basketball going in your handmade net. Tape the ends of the net to the back. Glue a second piece of colored card stock over the back to hide the thread and tape. If you use a satiny thread, your homemade net will have a shine of it. Personalize the front with you guest's name and add the party info at the top and bottom. Stand back and admire your handwork!
