Handmade Kentucky Derby Invitations
The Kentucky Derby is a great time to host a party and make handmade invitations for your guests. You will need gold colored dessert plates, cutouts of red roses, silver metallic card stock, glue pen, black marker. You can find the dessert plates, with the party supplies at most large discount stores. The red rose cutouts are found in the scrapbooking section of your favorite craft store or that same large discount store. For these special homemade invitations, you will need larger envelopes in gold, white, or silver. Pick envelopes that are large enough so the whole dessert plate can fit inside. Cut the silver card stock into horseshoe shapes. You want them to be large enough so that on fits well inside the middle of the dessert plate. Glue the horseshoe shape inside the dessert plate. Now you need to decide if you want it upside down to “keep the luck in” or right side up which may look more like a horseshoe. Either way will work for your lovely handmade invitation. Using the black marker personalize your homemade creation by writing the guest’s name inside the horseshoe. Add a slogan to really set off you handmade card. Something like “You are invited to the Winner’s Circle”. Use the bottom of a dessert plate as a template and draw a circle on the silver card stock. Cut that silver circle out, write your party info on it and glue it to the bottom of the plate. Glue one or two rose cutouts around your party info on the homemade invitation and write the slogan “The run for the roses”. Your creative handmade invitation are ready to send.
